As a small business owner, I know what it's like to face uncertainty, specially in the barber industry. Recently I talked with a couple of my fellow barbers and many of my clients, I've come to the conclusion that, our industry is in need of a serious face lift. What can be done to change the current state of one the oldest occupation known to man? I've studied this question for many years, and I've yet to come up with the perfect solution. That's not going to stop me from suggesting the following.

I believe first and foremost, the barber schools must do a much better job at selecting

the right candidate for their perspective establishments.

The appropriate candidate will be someone of substance, purpose, drive, goals, determination, ambition, respectful, intelligent, articulate, motivated, generous, God fearing...

Recently I watched on television on a cooking show none the less, "America's Next Great Restaurant" those attributes displayed by a man that was so passionate about making a better life for his family, that he poured out his very soul so the whole world could see what it means to be determined. After the show went of the air, I spent two hours on facebook defending this man that I have never met in my life.

People were going back and forth trying to figure out why he'd won , debating wether his food was the right choice, if it was anything but what he has deep inside him that pushed him to the winning circle. That is what's missing in the barber industry, people like Jamawn Woods .
